About Evolve

About Evolve

We pay attention to what makes organizations work.

Evolve Impact is an organizational development and executive advisory firm helping leaders strengthen the human and organizational capacity required for consequential change.

We work primarily with organizations shaping the built world, especially architecture, engineering, construction and related firms.

Our work begins from a simple belief:

Organizations are living human systems.

Strategy, structure, technology and process matter. But organizations ultimately move through people: how leaders perceive, decide, relate, communicate, learn, exercise authority and respond under pressure.

That is why we work across leaders, teams and organizational systems rather than treating human development and organizational performance as separate pursuits.

Human development. Organizational reality.

Evolve occupies an unusual position between executive development and organizational consulting.

We bring the depth of human understanding associated with excellent coaching together with the organizational perspective required to address consequential enterprise problems.

A struggling executive may be operating inside an impossible role.

A leadership-team conflict may reveal unclear authority.

A succession concern may expose weaknesses in the leadership bench or organizational readiness.

Growth may reveal that relationships, structures and ways of working have not evolved with the enterprise.

Our first responsibility is to understand what is actually happening.

Then we work at the level the problem requires.

How Evolve evolved

The practice grew by following the work.

Evolve was founded in Washington, DC in 2015 with a conviction that work could be both more human and more effective.

The early practice centered on coaching, leadership development, retreats and developmental experiences. But the work kept revealing something larger.

Individual leadership challenges were connected to roles, relationships and organizational systems. Team dynamics were shaped by authority, governance and culture. Succession required more than developing a successor. Growth demanded changes not only from leaders, but from the organizations around them.

So Evolve followed the evidence.

Over time, our work expanded from individual coaching into executive-team development, organizational diagnosis, governance and role clarification, leadership systems, succession readiness and organizational effectiveness.

The methods changed because the questions became larger.

The underlying practice did not.

Across the years, Evolve's strongest work has consistently involved helping people see more clearly, work honestly with what is happening and develop the capacity to create something more coherent in its place.

Today, organizational development is the core discipline of the firm. Executive advisory, coaching, team development, leadership development, facilitation and assessment are integrated capabilities we bring to the work as needed.

The method follows the problem.

What guides us

See the system behind the symptom.

We take the presenting problem seriously without assuming it tells the whole story.

We look across people, relationships, roles, structures and organizational conditions to understand what is shaping the situation.

Stay close to the work.

Evolve is intentionally a small, senior firm.

The people helping clients understand the problem remain meaningfully involved as the work unfolds. That continuity allows context, trust and judgment to deepen over time.

Develop capacity, not dependence.

Our aim is not to hold the answer outside the organization.

We help leaders and teams become more capable of seeing, deciding, relating, leading and adapting for themselves.

Combine rigor with humanity.

Human-centered does not mean unstructured.

We bring disciplined inquiry, evidence and organizational perspective to situations that are also emotional, relational and deeply human.

Warmth and rigor are not opposites. We expect both.

The people behind Evolve

Jill Barrett

Founder & Managing Partner

Jill founded Evolve after more than two decades of work across leadership, organizational development, social innovation, coaching, facilitation and systems change.

Her particular strength is discernment: seeing patterns across people, relationships and organizational systems, distinguishing the presenting problem from the underlying constraint and translating complexity into something leaders can work with.

Jill leads Evolve's most consequential discovery, organizational diagnosis and synthesis, engagement architecture, senior advisory relationships and high-stakes interventions.

Her approach integrates leadership and organizational development, systems thinking, adult development, psychology, neuroscience, linguistics and experiential learning.

Jill's work begins with a deceptively difficult question: What is actually happening here?

Jeremy Spaulding

Managing Partner

Jeremy brings a complementary systems and business perspective to Evolve.

His work spans business strategy, commercialization, innovation, technology, human-centered design and the practical realities of bringing ideas into the world.

He has worked across engineering, startups, manufacturing, healthcare, transportation, analytics and technology, with particular experience connecting human needs, technical systems and commercial reality.

Within Evolve, Jeremy helps ensure that strategy, market opportunity and practical reality fit together. He also joins selected client engagements where questions of business strategy, systems, technology, innovation or commercialization materially strengthen the work.

Jeremy brings a second essential question: What must be true for this to work in reality?

A senior practice, deliberately small

Evolve is not designed around a large pyramid of consultants.

Our model keeps senior judgment close to the client while allowing the right work to be carried by the right people.

Jill and Jeremy remain directly involved where their perspective creates the greatest value. Evolve also works with experienced coaches, facilitators and organizational practitioners who extend our capacity for leadership development, coaching, assessment, facilitation and program delivery.

This allows us to bring together the capabilities a situation requires without building engagements around utilization targets or a predetermined methodology.

We standardize the architecture beneath the work, not the human problem.

Building organizations is an act of stewardship.

Organizations affect far more than financial performance.

They shape careers, relationships, identity, communities, places and the natural world. The choices leaders make about growth, technology, succession, culture and ways of working therefore carry consequences beyond the organization itself.

We believe leaders are stewards of what they inherit and what they help create.

That requires ambition and responsibility.

Change and continuity.

Performance and flourishing.

Structure and flow.

We help leaders build organizations capable of performing well while remaining worthy of the people, communities and places affected by their work.

What comes next

Organizations are continuously being created through the decisions people make about leadership, relationships, authority, structure and work.

Some of those choices are deliberate.

Others simply accumulate.

Evolve exists to help leaders see more clearly what they have inherited, understand what their organization now requires and participate more consciously in creating what comes next.

See what is actually happening. Strengthen the capacity to respond. Build what comes next.
